About

The Caribbean Student Association at UNCW was created during the 2008-2009 school year by four students: Shekinah Smith, Joseph Nash, Danielle Naurayan, and Marshall Ellis. A staff member at UNCW, Kimberly McLaughlin-Smith, started an event called Wind Jah Waist, where she exposed UNCW students to Caribbean culture, realizing that there was void on our campus she suggested that we start the Caribbean Student Association. We started the Caribbean Student Association (CSA for short) to promote diversity on a campus that was seemingly not that diverse as compared to other schools. We also, wanted to create a place where students of Caribbean descent and lovers of Caribbean culture could come to together and have fun. One main goal of the organization was to also to educate and raise awareness about the Caribbean islands and their people.

OUR #1 RULE: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OF CARIBBEAN DESCENT TO BE PART OF CSA.
